“What do I wear for my Senior Session?” Lake City, FL Senior Portrait Photographer | Live Oak, FL Senior Portrait Photographer

“What do I wear for my Senior Session?” This is a comment I think EVERYONE asks themselves before their session.  Probably even before your schedule your Senior Portraits. Why? Because let’s face it, what you wear is the best way to express yourselves in photos. Yes, there are ways to get your personality in there & showcase some hobbies, but what you choose to wear for your Senior Portraits need to showcase YOU! They need to fit well (and my version of “fit well” may be different then yours which is why there’s a chance pins will be used to fit things correctly, lol), be a color & pattern that work with your hair & skin tone as well as be a style that suits you & your personality.

Accessories, shoes, etc.. are all ways to even add more of you to the look. There are MANY ways to figure out what to wear. Check magazines, local stores & of course Pintrest. Now, all the girls know about Pintrest & I would be surprised if any of the guys out there are even reading this, but I will cover a few looks for both just in case. 😉 So here’s a shot of MY Pintrest Board for Seniors (you can follow it here):Lake City, FL Senior Portraits What to Wear

As some of you know I have written about the wonders of Pintrest before.( If you’d like you can read them here and here) This is not that. It’s about finding your style, pairing colors, etc…  First, locations. Why? Certain locations look better with certain colors & styles. Choose your location & start from there. Based on the colors of the backgrounds, etc… you can choose colors what would flatter both you & your surroundings. For example, at the beach. Many people wear all white…..Is that the best? Actually it depends. If you’re shooting at sunrise or Sunset over the water when you can get all the colors of the sky in the background it can work. If you are shooting mid-day or some other time when the background will go mostly white, no. Because you in your white dress or shirt might blend in with the background. Not good right?  Wanting a woodsy feel? Green trees & green grass? Probably not best to wear the same color green as your surroundings…..Get the point?

What about patterns? It’s true certain patterns are more flattering & certain patterns look a little wonky on camera. Vertical stripes for instance. If they are large, great. If they are thin & tiny they sometimes take on a little disco effect with the light reflecting off them in the camera. Large prints? Fine on one aspect of your outfit. Multiple prints all over every piece of your outfit? No (I hope that’s a given).

When I book I set up Pintrest boards with my Seniors who also are Pintrest users so we can share ideas. I also offer to review outfits via texts, emails or even Skype. Even then I tell my Seniors to bring ALOT of clothes. Why? So we can go through them all. I may put together outfits that you didn’t think of knowing exactly where I am shooting, the colors there, etc…

Also, unless the wording on your shirt expresses you, I say stay away from words. No need to advertise for Abercrombie, Aeropostal, etc… they have a large advertising budget. 🙂

So in a nutshell when trying to answer the question, “What do I wear for my senior session?” Think of three things. 1) Your style; 2) Your location & 3) colors & prints that flatter both.  Answer all three of those & you will be rocking your session!

How Pintrest Can Help YOUR session! :: Lake City, FL Senior Portrait Photographer | Senior Portraits

So, many are on Pintrest. Highly addictive & definitely gobbles up time before you know it. But how else can you get great fashion ideas, future home ideas & more all in one place?  🙂  I LOVE Pintrest.  And, as I have pointed out in a previous blog about the wonders of Pintrest you can read here, it can REALLY help your session.

I am busy scheduling my Senior Portrait sessions for the Class of 2013 & on the new questionnaire my Seniors fill out I ask about Pintrest. Already I have a board set up for an upcoming Senior session. She & I can both post clothing, posing, props, location, etc… ideas so that we are on the same page for her session & can be sure that her session is AMAZING. Because that’s the end result we both want.

Using Pintrest for Senior Portraits :: Lake City, FL Senior Portraits

It’s a fun way to keep in touch, plan your session & through out ideas……gotta admit again. I love Pintrest.

Amazing online site for Fashion Lovers! Lake City, FL Senior Portraits | Senior Portrait Photographer

So, first there was Facebook (well really myspace, but let’s pretend that didn’t happen). Then Pintrest. Now, Polyvore.  If you haven’t found Polyvore & you are a lover of clothes this site is Ah-Maze-ing.  This is the home page. It’s basically an online closet of every piece of clothing, accessory, bag, etc.. you could ever want. You log on & design outfits. It’s the MECCA of window shopping to the extreme & without leaving your house.Polyvore.com

From there you can use the top tabs to select people to follow, or ideas already done, where to shop & of course how to create your own. There are templates to choose from or a basic design. Here I chose a “Fashion” template.Polyvore.com

From there you scroll through all the choices (even categorized by celebrity) to create a look you love.  Remove, flip, whatever you want to make it your own & how you like it. Here’s my end result. (I love color….even with black/white)Polyvore.com

NOW, once you start saving collages you can share them with friends, etc.. SO if any of you fashionistas out there make something amazing, or something you think would be great for a Senior Session, SHARE IT WITH ME. I will post it here (with your name to give you credit of course 🙂 for all to see your fabulous designs.

Alright, now I will leave you to kill 2-3 hours just exploring Polyvore.  Please don’t send hate mail when you find you lost almost an entire day to it though. 🙂

Till later,

xoxo

Pintrest……the new online addiction & how to let it help you! Lake City, FL Senior Portrait Photographer | Lake City, FL Senior Portraits

Pintrest…… The newest addiction for many out there. You can easily find ideas for parties, funny quotes, & everything the internet has to offer all in one place. As an added bonus, you can follow your friends & see what they like! Repin their photos, comment, or just search for your own unique items to fill your boards. You can pin things to your own boards fresh from the internet (like this blog post!) to share with everyone!

Pintrest has also brought a fun & easy way for photographers to help their clients plan their sessions & what to wear.  By following your photographer (& they in turn, following you) you can share ideas so that before the session you both have a good idea of what you want the outcome to be.

I have many boards. From things for my kids, things I find inspiring, quotes & of course, a What to Wear board. Ideas for Seniors (yes you!) as well as families are all in one place. Easy to see & share. Want to see ideas I have? Well then follow my board here!

Check it out! Imagine your Senior Session in Style then head on over to Senior Vision to book your session so we can make that styled session a reality!
